Death From The Skies

The other day the boys looked out the kitchen door and saw this big bird eating another bird on the deck.  They startled it and it flew into the mimosa tree all of fifteen or so feet away.  Danny grabbed his phone and took this shot.

After he sent it to me and I downloaded it, I blew it up (above) and Matt and I looked online and decided it was a Cooper's Hawk.  We could be wrong, we're not ornithologists, but we think it's a juvenile Cooper's Hawk.  The bird refused to fly away and leave its meal half-eaten.

When the boys came back a while later all that was left was a few gray feathers, probably that of a European  Collared Dove.
