Danny's Eagle Scout project is to replace the signposts on the Squaw Trail. They were originally placed nearly 20 years ago and are all gone now. There will be 25 posts in all, corresponding to 22 informative sites and 3 overlooks. The BLM has elected to go with the old pamphlet, so some of the shorter-lived plants are gone, but we found new examples near the old sites.
For example, there's supposed to be mistletoe in this old juniper and there is just a tiny bit still there, the rest is gone and the tree is mostly dead. Luckily, there's some in another tree just across the trail.
September 27 is the target date and we hope to have most, if not all,of the posts placed then. Harry Barber, the Kanab BLM Field Office manager, is supposed to check today and see if Lumber Plus has them, then we will get them and route the numbers so we're ready to go. Dan has helped a lot of kids on their projects we hope he'll get some payback on this one!
