Today, we started at the top and worked down. It's a lot easier to carry posts and shovels downhill!
We didn't get as much help today, but were fortunate to run into a group of kids from Abundant Life Academy that helped us with the last four or five posts. They helped us finish in time to have lunch at the park. The BLM hosted the affair. Here Matt is talking to the two counselors (or whatever they are) from the Academy. It's housed in the old hospital and is a Christ-centered program for troubled youth. I don't don't think some of them had ever handled a shovel before!
Hiking up and down the Squaw Trail the past couple of weeks has brought back a bunch of memories of times spent there, both as a kid and later. For example, this arch gave shelter to myself and a bunch of wet Webelos scouts in the early 80s. We got caught in a terrific downpour and were glad to find this overhang to at least give us partial shelter. I remember after the rain we all loaded up in the Subaru and drove to the Frostop and had cheeseburgers and shakes!
Although we spend a lot of time with the Rhino, the jeep still holds a special place in our hearts.
