I was sitting on the couch the other day and looking at all the remote control devices we have. There's one (or more) for every electronic gadget we have in the family room. How remarkable it is to flip through channels, play games, watch videos, play rockband, etc., all without leaving your chair! Of course, if you misplace a remote, or screw it up somehow, then they can become very frustrating.Just underneath the lineup of remotes in the above picture are the remotes God has given us to help us tune him in. The scriptures, both ancient and modern, serve as a form of remote 'control'. Just like the TV remote, the scriptures, if used improperly can cause frustration and narrow interpretations leading to different channels and interpretations of God's will for man. Witness the many religions extent today (the same diversity of interpretation that was such a source of frustration for Joseph Smith.) Used correctly, with prayer, pondering, and the aid of modern revelation, God's 'remotes' will take us where we want and need to go.
