An important part of our family get-together was taking all the boys and going to the rifle range north of Kanab. We've come here off and on ever since they were little to do a little shooting. We're not target shooters and not particularly competitive, but do like to make a little noise and smell the burnt gunpowder.
Jared proved himself the class of the clays by doing more of this than anyone else. If you look closely (or blow the picture up) you can see the shattered target.Sidetrail: Pretty scenic spot for a rifle range, don't you think?
The Schmutz bros. and the shootout at the not-so-OK Corral. Jared and Danny are shooting Hungarian PA-63s in 9x18 Makarov. They're a small pistol (dandy for concealed carry) and the Makarov cartridge, while not quite as powerful as the slightly larger 9mm Luger (or Parabellum, or 9x19) still gives a pretty sharp recoil in the little gun. Matt is shooting the Colt Gov't Model in .45 ACP, while Andy has a Ruger Single Six in .32 H&R Magnum. (Don't let the Magnum part fool you. It's a pretty soft-shooting revolver, just right for plinking without a lot of noise or muzzle blast.)

Good looking bunch of boys! Very scenic and nice lesson on handguns. This is a Thanksgiving tradition for our guys. It sort of changed when Shayla joined the family, she is always up for anything.
