Our two mighty cottonwoods, which we revere so highly during the summer months while protected by their not inconsiderable shade turn on us in the fall when they drop their leaves, literally obscuring the lawn. Andy and I spent a good share of Wednesday afternoon raking, mowing, pulverizing and bagging leaves. And by the time the weekend storm blows through, the stragglers ought to be on the ground. At least they're not elms that are loath to give up their leaves and only do so a little miserly bit at a time Home ownership brings many such moments as this to help us connect with our own ancestors in their bid to be one with nature. We cheat a little bit in our oneness in that if we can get powertools we use them. On the otherhand, that may not be cheating, but simply learning line upon line, precept upon precept. Yes, that's the way to look at it.
