Homecoming, 2011

Friday was our last Homecoming either as students or as parents of students at KHS. Peg says this was the last game for her, but for me, I don't think so. Before the game Xpress sang a wonderful rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. Xpress is such an elite group at KHS that ball players, cheerleaders, Larriettes, etc., take breaks from their own programs to participate. If you zoom in, Danny is in the front row.

This year, instead of the Homecoming Royalty being paraded around the field in convertibles, they were mounted on horses. Fitting for a school whose mascot is a cowboy.

South Sevier took the field this year against KHS, and in a game that seemed every other play was marred by a penalty, KHS came out on top 26-22.

Those of you who are from my era can remember the 'K' being formed by whitewashed rocks, and for homecoming, hauling up old tires to make another 'K' just to the side of the rock one. At half-time, the tires were lit to make an impressive burning symbol of KHS. Now, in this world of environmental regulations, BLM (sorry, James*), and more tender sensibilities, we have a concrete 'K'** and use flares instead.

*While I don't approve of some of the increasing wilderness and backcountry regulations, I do think we have some good people working at at the BLM and am more than glad they are there to help bring some common sense to land management. James is one of those good people.
