We got into Rome fairly early in the afternoon, but by the time we returned our rental and found our van that took us into the city, it was almost evening. We threw our things in our rental and took off for a short lookaround. We stayed only a block from the Piazza di Spagna at the foot of the famous Spanish Steps. The plaza and the steps take their name from the Spanish Embassy located on the other side of the plaza. The steps lead to the Triniti dei Monti church, a French sponsored church, seen here at the top of the stairs.
Yes, the wives are shopping!
This is the famous Trevi Fountain, one of the earliest fountains in Rome. Many fountains mark the end of one of the many Roman aqueducts that brought water to the Eternal City. A popular tourist attraction, legend says that if you throw a coin over your shoulder and it lands in the fountain, you will return to Rome.
Peggy and I saying good-bye to a long, long day! We did do the coin toss and we both hit the water, so who knows?
