Last July I posted about a 4-wheeling trip down through the Barracks, up and out via Elephant Cove and Harris Mtn., making the loop with Jared, Matt, and Danny. Saturday (9/25) we did it again, only in reverse. This time Garrett joined Dan and I (Matt went with Peg to KY).

The reason for this trip was a benefit ride for a young father in the Valley who has been diagnosed with cancer. Quite a few people showed up to show their support both by being there and giving with their wallets.

We tried to get out on the trail early but still were about 10 vehicles behind the leaders. So we ate dust.

This sad state of affairs continued until we reached the overlook on the way up to Harris. We found the leaders there taking a break and enjoying the view. We jumped at the chance to get out in front and open the throttles.

Elephant Cove and clear trails were a welcome site after the dusty start. If you've forgotten how Elephant Cove got its name, check out the previous post on 7/6/2010. (One of these days I'll figure out how to insert links.)

Dan the 4-wheelin' man.

Garrett rode like a pro.

Evidence of high water sometime in the past.

The ride was about 35 miles and offers a good mix of open road, a few nice climbs (or descents, depending on which way you're going) and lots and lots of sand!

Thanks for taking Garrett. He had a blast!
McKenna said she would seriously like to go sometime. That says alot considering we hardly ever see her! Maybe she would just open up her schedule just for you though!
