Oregon Trail (Part 4)

Grace trying to convince her dad that it would be a great idea to let her spend the night with Grandma and Grandpa in the motel.

Since Saturday was Sarah's birthday we had a little cake and ice cream.

One day Heaton got so worn out with all the excitement he wandered into the bedroom and fell asleep on Matt's bed.

Jared had to work while we were there, but we did treat him to lunch one day at Taco Time before we went off for a hike.

Monday we went for a hike to Susan Falls up along the Umpqua River. Umpqua is an Indian word meaning 'motion-sickness inducing'. Not really, but the road along side it is pretty twisty in places.

Had to throw this in. Eagle Scout projects and other scout service activities add up to thousands of volunteer service hours each year that benefit our communities in countless ways. Many go unnoticed or are taken for granted, so it's nice to see a sign giving credit to the scout and his troop. The project itself was a sturdy picnic table.

For Family Home Evening we all went bowling.

On our return trip we went via Crater Lake National Park. Since we had so far to go we could only stay a little while, but it was certainly worth the detour.

There was a whole lot of nothing on the way home, no disrespect to southeast Oregon and northern Nevada. After we hooked up with I-80 at Winnemucca, we got off the freeway again at Oasis, then followed a road up around the northwestern side of the Great Salt Lake. I would've like to see that country a little bit, but it was night by then. After joining I-84 at Snowville, it wasn't long before we were back at Sarah's in Brigham.

Had a great trip and a great time. Our thanks to Jared and Adrianne and family for their hospitality. And to Sarah and her kids for making the long drive with us.
