A couple of weeks ago we took off on our summer vacation. This year we went to Roseburg, Oregon, to visit Jared and his family. They recently moved there after completing his obligation to Uncle Sam and the United States Army. Because we were picking up Sarah and her two boys in Brigham we thought we ought to get a little more packing space for the Big Red Beast.
Peggy is settled in to her travel mode: feet on the dash, good book in hand, water bottle nearby and hand sanitizer at the ready.
Here we are ready to go early on the morning of the 20th. We were really excited to be going somewhere new and really excited to have Sarah and the boys come with us. Scott had work obligations that prevented him from joining us but we managed to convince Sarah to join us. (Thanks, Scott!)
We followed I-84 across southern Idaho and just after we crossed into Oregon, we left the freeway and followed Highway 20 across Oregon.
From Ontario, just across the border into Oregon we went to Burns, Bend, Eugene, and finally Roseburg. Coming from Utah, there's really no convenient way to get to Roseburg that doesn't involve lots of 2-lane highways.
Heaton stretching his legs at Burns while we get gas. Oregon is one of the only two states in the Union that doesn't trust people to pump their own gas. It's a wonder the rest of us haven't blown ourselves up!
Finally, 14 hours after we left Brigham, we reached Jared's house. The kids traveled pretty well and I've come to believe that the portable DVD is the greatest invention ever. Our only mistake is that we didn't bring enough movies and had to recycle those we brought several times!
