Amazon Queen

After our quick walk around the city, we were ready to board our boat, the Amazon Queen for the trip down the Amazon to our lodge.

This was like two trips in one.  First the Andes, with the high mountains and altiplano, and now the humid, tropical Amazon rain forest.

Another Tony photo.

Logs going upriver towards Iquitos.

After checking in at the lodge and a short break, we took off for a hike into the jungle.  Did I mention it was hot and muggy?

Our group assembled at the base of a giant Ceiba tree that somehow escaped being chopped down.  The lodge is on the site of a failed banana plantation.  Most of the trees are second growth and less than 50 years old.
