Piranha!

Tony's photo.

Tuesday morning (the 23rd) we set off upriver a little bit and turned into a smaller inlet to do a little fishing.

We baited our hooks with a little chunk of meat.  They had a 2 or 3 inch wire leader so the piranha wouldn't bite through the line.  Peg is showing off her trophy!

The business end of a piranha. They would take those razor sharp teeth and literally slice the meat off the hooks.  They hardly ever swallowed the hook.  The most we could hope for was to hook them through the lip or corner of the mouth once we felt the line wiggle.  A sharper and smaller hook might have helped, but as it was we had a good time.

Not a piranha!

We kept the big(ger) ones we caught and they cooked them up for dinner.  Not a lot of meat on them.
