All Or Nothing (Rain, That Is)

After a long, dry spell it finally rained in Kanab. After seeing rain on all sides of us for the past few days, we finally got hit Friday evening and early Saturday morning. Here you can see the mud on our street.

La Estancia was particularly hard hit. But I guess that's what you would expect in a flood plain. Some poor planning combined with inadequate drainage contributed to this mess.

Across the street, our neighbor's yard filled up with mud when the water coming down off the hill flowed right over his retaining wall.

Many of the townhomes in El Pueblo (where we lived for a short time when we remodeled) were hit. The water line can be seen on the wall. Many other houses, even in the older part of Kanab were also affected. A home a block away from us had a basement window blow out and the basement filled up with three or more feet of water and left over a foot of mud.

We were fortunate. All we got was a little mud on the driveway and along the gutter and a couple of little gullies down the road to the back. When we built, we made sure that the house was situated higher than the road and that we had no window wells.
